Coach Derrick’s passion for athletics began at a young age when his mother signed him up to play youth football. The roar of the crowd, the rhythm of the game, and the lessons of perseverance became the foundation of Derrick’s life story. Sports provided not only joy but structure. Although life occasionally threw him off course, the brotherhood and purpose he found through sports always brought him back.
Now a father to twin boys, Coach Derrick is on a mission to pay it forward—to create the same environment of love, discipline, and growth that shaped him. He is especially passionate about supporting young boys from under-resourced communities, offering them a program where they are seen, supported, and pushed to grow—not only as athletes but as leaders, teammates, and future men.
GRIT, GRIND, HUSTLE Elite is a competitive and community-rooted basketball program that focuses on discipline, teamwork, and character building through athletics. Originally founded in 2023, GGH began with a small group of young players and families who wanted more than just basketball—they were seeking brotherhood, structure, and community.
Today, GGH proudly serves families from all walks of life, many of whom are children of single-parent households and people of color. Our program provides not just a space to play but a place to belong, to grow, and to thrive. Through basketball, we create a powerful avenue for building self-worth, accountability, and leadership.
